There are rainbows at the end of the storm. There may be thunder, lightning, wind, and rain but as the storm clouds clear look toward the sun and find the rainbow. Life is unpredictable. We are going merrily along when you suddenly face an unexpected obstacle. This happens at work, it happens with relationships, it happens in life. You never know what or when you will have a crisis. Just know that you will have a crisis in your life at some point. Your well laid plans will take a detour. Preparing for those opstecles in life is the basis of many professions. Lawyers, Accountants, Bankers, Insurance Agents, Financial Planners …..
Do you remember what you were doing on October 22, 2012? That was the day that Hurricane Sandy was born down in the Caribbean. The birthplace of so many of those storms. It wound it’s way through the islands leaving destruction in it’s wake. It wasn’t until the 24th that the storm models started showing a path in our direction. The media went into a frenzy that the Northeast had a big bulls-eye on it and was expected to take a direct hit. Although Sandy was no longer a Hurricane when it hit Long Island there was massive damage from the storm surge which caused significant flooding on the South …..
Did you see it? Sunday night there was an incredible celestial event. A total lunar eclipse. Not just any eclipse, a full moon, a super moon, and a blood moon. Not to be seen again until 2033. The sky cleared just in time. My husband and I sat on our back deck watching earth’s shadow move across the moon obscuring it’s brightness and resulting in a deep red color. We sat mesmerized by the event in the cool night air. I had seen this once before on a live-aboard dive-boat in the Caribbean. That time I didn’t know it was coming. I didn’t know what I was seeing. I didn’t …..
It is a beautiful September day. The sun is shining. The sky filled with puffy white clouds on a bright blue field. The children are off from school today. Yum Kippur, the day of atonement, the highest holy day of the Jewish calendar finds the faithful fasting and in synagogue. It is also a day that brings the family together to break the fast at sundown. No matter what your faith, as you bring your family together today or this evening and share a family meal or activity together. Look closely at those you love. Turn off that cell phone and disconnect from the noise for just a moment. …..
There was a change in the air, when I woke this Monday morning. There was a noticeable chill in the air as the temperature dipped into the 50’s. I welcome the cooling temperatures as we move into the Fall season. I parked in a local grocery store lot, and noticed the acorns falling from the trees, bouncing off the hood of my car, fortunately no dents. I smile as I watch, fat fluffy tailed squirrels pick up the acorns and scurry away to secure their stores. Just as the squirrels prepare for the winter months ahead we must also prepare. Much as we don’t want to think about it. Now …..
In my lifetime there are three events that are forever etched in my memory. The Assassination of President John F Kennedy on November 22, 1963 The Challenger Disaster on January 28, 1986 And The Terrorist Attack on the World Trade Center and Pentagon on September 11, 2001 This Friday marks the 14th anniversary of the 9-11 tragedy. Do you remember where you were when you heard the news. I will never forget. The shock, the fear, and the disbelief as I watched the events of that day unfold. I was shaken to my core. How could something like this happen? We lost so many innocent Americans on that day. Americans …..
This week we remember the devastation Hurricane Katrina left in her wake. Ten years have past yet recovery is still in process for so many. It was a natural disaster of historic proportions. Katrina caused billions in property damage, left 1900 dead, and 250,000 pets displaced, lost, or perished. Many refused to leave their homes because they could not take their pets to the shelter. This put both people and pets in danger. Many left their beloved pets behind as they evacuated only to never know what happened to them. They may never have been found again and the family not only lost their home but beloved members of their …..
There are heroes all around us. I am not referring to the sports icons or celebs that dominate the media. I am talking about the everyday heroes that prove to me that there truly are good people in the world. These are the people that rush to the danger rather than away from it. When everyone else is frozen with fear and uncertainty they leap in and change the outcome for those in danger. They are special because not everyone would do what they do. They are special because they are the true heroes around us. They do not shout their heroic deeds from the rooftops. They do not seek …..
There is an elephant in the room. It is the subject no one wants to talk about, yet it may be the most important conversation you have with your loved ones. Our journey through life is varied and unpredictable. Our life experiences are unique to each of us, yet we each face the same end. We do not choose the how, where, or when of our final curtain call. Young or old, healthy or ill, accident or natural causes, when it is our time it is our time. Advance planning is essential to insure that your loved ones are taken care of. This planning is important for any disaster that …..
Life does not always go smoothly. I am The Crisis Planner for a reason. Unexpected things happen, whether we are prepared or not. We procrastinate and make excuses for not putting a plan in place to protect ourselves and our families. There are consequences for this procrastination. We don’t see the consequences until we are facing them. It is easy to make excuses. It is easy to blame others, the circumstances, the weather, or anything but ourselves for our situation. You lose a Job. You get a DWI. You have a heart attack. Your finances are a mess. Your basement floods. You crash the car. Your spouse leaves you. …..
