Watching The Squirrels

squirrelThere was a change in the air, when I woke this Monday morning.  There was a noticeable chill in the air as the temperature dipped into the 50’s.  I welcome the cooling temperatures as we move into the Fall season.  I parked in a local grocery store lot, and noticed the acorns falling from the trees, bouncing off the hood of my car, fortunately no dents.  I smile as I watch, fat fluffy tailed squirrels pick up the acorns and scurry away to secure their stores.

Just as the squirrels prepare for the winter months ahead we must also prepare.  Much as we don’t want to think about it. Now is the time to get things in order before we actually need them.

For my part, I have had my annual heating system turn up.  I have scheduled my Chimney cleaning and ordered wood for my wood stove.  I have closed my pool and packed up the outdoor furniture.  I am doing a walk around of my property to see what needs to be taken care of.  I am looking for dead limbs on my trees that could come down in a storm.  I am inspecting my fences to make sure evefall leavesrything is secure to keep my dogs safely in my yard.

My winter prep agenda includes an inspection and test of my snow blower and my quad that I use as a plow.  If anything needs to be repaired now is the time to find out.  I can take the equipment to the repair shop if needed to insure that it will operate correctly when I need it.  Now is the time to fill the gas cans as well.  I also like to check out the operation of my generator.  I don’t want to be in a panic on it’s operation if I should need it.

Taking care of these things a little at a time over the next month will insure that I will be ready when our beautiful fall turns into winter.  I can savor the magic in the cool nights and bright sunny days.  I can truly relax, enjoy, and have peace of mind knowing I am prepared.

woodstock and snoopy fallAre you prepared?

What are you waiting for?

Now is the time to make your list and start checking things off one by one.

Ready or not, Winter will be here before you know it.
